Wet Bottles After Air-Knife Drying: Source and Coverage Checks

Review wet bottles after air-knife drying using residual-water location, bottle spacing, point-of-use supply and downstream acceptance.

What to establish first

Identify whether moisture remains after drying or forms again before labeling or coding. Compare water carryover, container surface, drying coverage and ambient conditions rather than assuming that a larger blower is the only solution.

Three checks before a change

  1. Observe where moisture first appears and where it returns. Record bottle temperature, format, upstream exposure and the distance to the next operation.
  2. Review air-knife coverage, bottle presentation and the agreed air quality and supply. Inspect blockages or setup changes using the authorised procedure.
  3. Trial the selected drying arrangement with the actual label or code application. Verify the downstream result under the intended operating conditions, including stops and restart.

Interpret the observed pattern

Observed patternNext review
Water remains in one bottle regionMap the region and compare the approved bottle pose and drying interface. A global air-supply adjustment may not address the local access problem.
Wetness follows accumulation or restartRelate spacing, conveying and actual point-of-use supply to the event. Verify the recovery condition as well as steady production.
Drying appearance passes but downstream failsCheck the real label or code surface and downstream acceptance. The relevant endpoint is the required process result, not a distant visual impression.

Evidence to record

Use these fields as a worksheet. Keep individual results and comparison samples; an overall average alone may hide the affected condition.

Record itemRequired evidence
Moisture location and timingIdentify the exact format, lot and document revision; attach a representative sample or record.
Bottle and ambient conditionsState the location, method, instrument and operating condition so a comparison can be repeated.
Dryer setup and air supplyLink the observation to an individual sample and a common timestamp; retain both normal and affected cases.
Downstream application resultsRecord the approved assessment, action, verification result and responsible person; keep unresolved items visible.

Controlled trial and acceptance

Agree the observation, affected boundary and acceptance method before starting a trial. Identify the product-package combination, approved settings and responsible equipment or quality owner. A test must have a clear question and a controlled disposition for trial material.

Compare the existing and proposed condition with identified samples using the same measurement basis. Change only what the responsible owner has authorised. Include the relevant steady-running, stop or restart case; one passing sample does not establish repeatable operation.

Keep results, samples and configuration revisions together. Record what passed, what remains open and the exact approved scope. If a correction moves the defect to another process step or compromises another acceptance requirement, retain that result and continue the assessment.

Common question

Will more airflow always prevent wet labels?

Not necessarily. Coverage, presentation and moisture that forms again after the dryer must be investigated. Verify the condition at the actual application point.

Technical reading

The linked manufacturer material provides engineering context. This worksheet is an independently written diagnostic framework; the installed equipment’s approved instructions and the site’s product acceptance determine the actual procedure and limits.
