First Good Pack After Changeover: Verification and Release
Verify the first good pack after changeover across filling, closure, label, code, inspection and packing with revision and release records.
What to establish first
Define the first accepted pack across the entire line, not only the first correctly filled bottle. Check the changed product, container, closure, label, code, pack and inspection recipe against the approved format record.
Three checks before a change
- List what changed and compare parts, settings and materials with the controlled setup. Identify retained assumptions that still require confirmation.
- Inspect the agreed first samples from filling through final packing, including code content and reject challenges. Use the defined assessment methods.
- Record the approving roles and the disposition of trial or startup material. Keep the accepted samples and setup revision available for later comparison.
Interpret the observed pattern
| Observed pattern | Next review |
|---|---|
| Filled sample passes but downstream is untested | Keep it as a partial result. Complete closure, label, code, inspection and final-pack checks applicable to the changed combination. |
| Recipe and change-part revisions differ | Reconcile the approved combination before accepting the trial. A good sample does not eliminate a configuration-control discrepancy. |
| All required results pass | Record approval, exact scope and startup-material disposition. Retain accepted samples and versions so later drift can be compared with a traceable reference. |
Evidence to record
Use these fields as a worksheet. Keep individual results and comparison samples; an overall average alone may hide the affected condition.
| Record item | Required evidence |
|---|---|
| Product-package change list | Identify the exact format, lot and document revision; attach a representative sample or record. |
| Parts and recipe revisions | State the location, method, instrument and operating condition so a comparison can be repeated. |
| End-to-end sample and challenge results | Link the observation to an individual sample and a common timestamp; retain both normal and affected cases. |
| Approval and startup-material disposition | Record the approved assessment, action, verification result and responsible person; keep unresolved items visible. |
Controlled trial and acceptance
Agree the observation, affected boundary and acceptance method before starting a trial. Identify the product-package combination, approved settings and responsible equipment or quality owner. A test must have a clear question and a controlled disposition for trial material.
Compare the existing and proposed condition with identified samples using the same measurement basis. Change only what the responsible owner has authorised. Include the relevant steady-running, stop or restart case; one passing sample does not establish repeatable operation.
Keep results, samples and configuration revisions together. Record what passed, what remains open and the exact approved scope. If a correction moves the defect to another process step or compromises another acceptance requirement, retain that result and continue the assessment.
Common question
Does the first filled bottle confirm a complete changeover?
It confirms only the checks actually performed on that sample. Closure, label, code, final pack and inspection need their own agreed verification.
Technical reading
The linked manufacturer material provides engineering context. This worksheet is an independently written diagnostic framework; the installed equipment’s approved instructions and the site’s product acceptance determine the actual procedure and limits.
