Empty Bottle Inspector False Rejects: Sample-Based Review
Separate real empty-bottle defects from false rejects using paired images, samples, format rules and an approved challenge set.
What to establish first
Compare rejected bottles with the defined inspection criteria before altering sensitivity. A material or presentation change may affect the image, while some apparent false rejects may reveal a genuine package defect.
Three checks before a change
- Retain accepted, rejected and known-challenge samples with inspection category, bottle lot and time. Confirm the reference samples remain representative.
- Compare bottle colour, geometry, moisture and presentation with the approved setup. Review lighting, cleanliness and alignment through authorised inspection procedures.
- Repeat the agreed challenge test after any supported change. Record both correct rejects and accepted good samples; a lower rejection rate alone is not acceptance.
Interpret the observed pattern
| Observed pattern | Next review |
|---|---|
| Rejected samples contain real defects | Classify them using the approved incoming-container standard and retain the lot link. A real defect increase requires a packaging-quality response, not reduced detection. |
| Accepted truth samples trigger rejects | Compare image conditions, positioning and format rules under the controlled test. Record the representative challenge set before proposing a change. |
| Samples cannot be classified confidently | Keep them as unresolved rather than relabelling them acceptable to improve statistics. Obtain a quality decision and preserve the corresponding images. |
Evidence to record
Use these fields as a worksheet. Keep individual results and comparison samples; an overall average alone may hide the affected condition.
| Record item | Required evidence |
|---|---|
| Bottle lot and format | Identify the exact format, lot and document revision; attach a representative sample or record. |
| Defect class and sample photographs | State the location, method, instrument and operating condition so a comparison can be repeated. |
| Approved reference/challenge samples | Link the observation to an individual sample and a common timestamp; retain both normal and affected cases. |
| Good-bottle and defect-test results | Record the approved assessment, action, verification result and responsible person; keep unresolved items visible. |
Controlled trial and acceptance
Agree the observation, affected boundary and acceptance method before starting a trial. Identify the product-package combination, approved settings and responsible equipment or quality owner. A test must have a clear question and a controlled disposition for trial material.
Compare the existing and proposed condition with identified samples using the same measurement basis. Change only what the responsible owner has authorised. Include the relevant steady-running, stop or restart case; one passing sample does not establish repeatable operation.
Keep results, samples and configuration revisions together. Record what passed, what remains open and the exact approved scope. If a correction moves the defect to another process step or compromises another acceptance requirement, retain that result and continue the assessment.
Common question
Should sensitivity be reduced whenever rejects increase?
First establish the rejected condition and sampling evidence. A setting change must preserve the agreed ability to identify defects, not simply lower the displayed reject count.
Technical reading
The linked manufacturer material provides engineering context. This worksheet is an independently written diagnostic framework; the installed equipment’s approved instructions and the site’s product acceptance determine the actual procedure and limits.
