Bottle Conveyor Transfer Jams: Interface Diagnostic Worksheet
Locate the first abnormal bottle at a conveyor transfer and compare interface, accumulation and restart evidence; verify package damage too.
What to establish first
Mark the exact transfer where the first unstable bottle appears. Compare package geometry, guide and transfer interfaces, accumulation and stop/restart behaviour before changing the whole conveyor system.
Three checks before a change
- Record container dimensions, contact surfaces, fill state and format parts. Compare the approved package with affected material lots.
- Observe the transfer under normal guarding through steady running and restart. Review guide alignment, transitions and line-state interactions with the supplier.
- Verify an authorised correction with the intended formats and accumulation cases. Count fallen or damaged containers and compare the accepted output, not only belt speed.
Interpret the observed pattern
| Observed pattern | Next review |
|---|---|
| First abnormal bottle is at the handoff | Relate its pose to the documented interface and change parts. Inspect through authorised isolation; avoid altering several adjacent sections at once. |
| Accumulation develops after a downstream stop | Trace stop propagation and recovery on one timeline. The final pile-up location may be a consequence rather than the initial fault. |
| Trial reduces jams but increases bottle damage | Retain both results and review the transfer acceptance as a whole. A successful trial must satisfy handling and package requirements together. |
Evidence to record
Use these fields as a worksheet. Keep individual results and comparison samples; an overall average alone may hide the affected condition.
| Record item | Required evidence |
|---|---|
| Transfer location and format | Identify the exact format, lot and document revision; attach a representative sample or record. |
| Package condition and parts revision | State the location, method, instrument and operating condition so a comparison can be repeated. |
| Accumulation and restart state | Link the observation to an individual sample and a common timestamp; retain both normal and affected cases. |
| Jam and accepted-output records | Record the approved assessment, action, verification result and responsible person; keep unresolved items visible. |
Controlled trial and acceptance
Agree the observation, affected boundary and acceptance method before starting a trial. Identify the product-package combination, approved settings and responsible equipment or quality owner. A test must have a clear question and a controlled disposition for trial material.
Compare the existing and proposed condition with identified samples using the same measurement basis. Change only what the responsible owner has authorised. Include the relevant steady-running, stop or restart case; one passing sample does not establish repeatable operation.
Keep results, samples and configuration revisions together. Record what passed, what remains open and the exact approved scope. If a correction moves the defect to another process step or compromises another acceptance requirement, retain that result and continue the assessment.
Common question
Is matching conveyor belt speed enough to prevent jams?
Transfer geometry, container behaviour, guides and accumulation also matter. Check the interface under the actual operating sequence.
Technical reading
The linked manufacturer material provides engineering context. This worksheet is an independently written diagnostic framework; the installed equipment’s approved instructions and the site’s product acceptance determine the actual procedure and limits.
