Multi-SKU Flexibility Planning

Beverage Line Changeover Planning Guide for Bottles, Cans and Packs

Changeover performance begins with a complete SKU matrix. Product, bottle or can, closure, label, code, pack pattern, cleaning need and restart checks must be mapped before machinery and change parts are selected.

Build the SKU Matrix Before Asking for Quick Changeover

SKU dimension Examples of affected equipment Buyer input
Product Mixing, thermal process, filler, CIP and restart sequence. Recipe family, hygiene route and allergen or carryover controls.
Primary package Blower, depalletizer, conveyors, rinser, filler and closer. Dimensioned bottle or can drawing and samples.
Decoration and code Labeler, printer, inspection and reject station. Label material, artwork dimensions and code position.
Secondary pack Collation, shrink wrapper, tray or carton packer and palletizer. Pack count, orientation, tray/carton and pallet pattern.

Separate Changeover Into Controllable Work

Mechanical

Replace or adjust format parts using identified locations, tools, storage and verification points.

Recipe and controls

Load approved machine recipes with access control, parameter limits and version records.

Cleaning and release

Complete the required cleaning, inspection, first-off checks and documented production release.

“Quick changeover” is not a standalone machine feature. It depends on the SKU range, number of adjustments, change-part design, recipe control, cleaning requirement, tools, training and release procedure.

Changeover Acceptance Checklist

  • Run the change from a named starting SKU to a named destination SKU.
  • Define whether product cleaning, package change and pack-pattern change are included.
  • List the operators, tools, lifting aids and pre-staged parts allowed during the test.
  • Measure from last accepted pack to first accepted pack using the agreed release checks.
  • Inspect container handling, fill, closure, label, code and finished pack after restart.
  • Record missing parts, unsafe adjustments, recipe errors and training actions on the punch list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What information belongs in a beverage-line SKU matrix?

Include product, container, closure, label, code, pack format, pallet pattern, target output, process route, cleaning requirement and planned production frequency.

Can changeover time be guaranteed?

Only for a clearly defined start SKU, destination SKU, included work, operators, tools, materials and first-good-pack acceptance method.

Do all bottle-size changes require new filler height settings?

It depends on the machine and container-handling design. Bottle drawings and samples are needed to identify neck handling, base support, guides, stars and head adjustments.

Why should change parts be included in the quotation?

Without a complete list, buyers may receive a line that runs one reference package but requires unpriced parts, tooling or programming for additional SKUs.

Turn the SKU List Into an Equipment Scope

Send every planned product, container, closure, label and pack format. We can then identify change parts, controls, cleaning boundaries and acceptance questions before quotation comparison.
